Getting started
Convo is a feedback tool built around people rather than vote counts. Each of your products gets one public page where anyone can post without an account, every post opens a conversation you can answer in place, and when you ship, the people who asked hear back.
This guide takes you from signing in to a live page collecting real feedback. It takes about five minutes.
Convo uses your Google account. Open convo.randomfact.com/app and choose Sign in with Google. There is no password to manage, and no separate Convo account to create.
Signing in is for makers — you and your team. The people who give you feedback never sign in to anything: identity on a public page is offered, never demanded.
Create your workspace and first product
The first time you sign in, Convo opens a two-step form.
Step 1 — your workspace. A workspace is your team's container: it holds your members and their roles, and it groups all of your products.
- Workspace name — your team or organization, like "Acme".
- Workspace URL — 5 to 20 lowercase letters, digits, and hyphens, with no leading, trailing, or repeated hyphens.
acmegives your workspace the addressconvo.randomfact.com/acme. It is suggested from the name; edit it if you want something else. A handful of words are reserved for Convo's own pages (app, settings, overview, and a few more) and the form will tell you when you have picked one.
Step 2 — your first product. A product is a single feedback board: its own public page, its own roadmap, its own changelog.
- Product name — what you are collecting feedback about, like "Acme App".
- Product key — 3 to 5 uppercase letters, like
WEB. Every piece of feedback is numbered from it (WEB-1,WEB-2, and so on), and the key is the last part of the product's address.
Choose Create workspace & product and Convo drops you into your new workspace.
A product is public by default: as soon as it exists, its page is live and anyone with the link can read it and post to it.
One address, three uses
Your product lives at /{workspace}/{KEY} — for the example above, convo.randomfact.com/acme/WEB. That is the only address it has, and the same workspace-and-key pair is what the REST API tools and the embed widget take. There is no second "public" URL to keep track of and no slug to claim per product.
To add another product later, open your workspace home and choose New product.
Post the first piece of feedback yourself
Open your product's page and post something — it is the fastest way to see what your users will see.
The page is a single capture box over a live feed. A title is optional; the body is the only thing anyone has to write. There is no account gate, no required category, and no type picker: ideas, bugs, confusion, and praise all land in the same place, and you sort them out afterwards.
After the first post, Convo offers a way to be recognised — Continue with Google, or just an email address verified by a magic link, which is what someone leaves when they want to hear back. Both are optional, and declining leaves the post credited to "Anonymous". Climbing a rung later re-attributes everything already posted from that browser, so nothing is stranded.
Email addresses are maker-visible only. They never appear on the public page and are never shown to other users; public authorship is a Google name and avatar, a name the person chose, or "Anonymous".
Invite your team
Workspace admins invite people from workspace settings at /{workspace}/settings.
Under Invite links, pick a role and choose Create invite:
- admin — everything a member can do, plus managing members, roles, and invites.
- member — the full maker view of every product in the workspace.
An invite can carry an optional expiry date, and each link is single-use: once someone joins with it, it stops working. Copy the link and send it however you like. Existing members and their roles are listed on the same page, and only the workspace owner can delete the workspace.
One URL, two audiences
The most useful thing to know about Convo: /{workspace}/{KEY} is a single URL that shows different things to different people.
- Workspace members get the maker view — the triage feed of everything said, newest first, with the roadmap, changelog, and people views alongside it.
- Everyone else gets the public page — the capture box, the feed, the roadmap, and the changelog.
There is nothing to switch on and no separate link to publish. Send the same URL to a customer that you have open yourself, and each of you sees the right thing.
Where to go next
Share your product's page — in an email, in your product's help menu, or embedded in your own app — and answer the first few posts by hand. Convo is worth more the moment someone sees their feedback get a reply.
